This is the second in a series of “Things YOU can do!” to help the planet without harming your comfortable modern lifestyle. A way for people to learn about efficiency and do measurable good.  It’s a fun project and people tend to get into it more and more, but a lot of people need to understand that the little things DO add up and everyone DOES make a difference.

Last spring while searching for a job, I came across a posting for a PHP developer. Cool, PHP! I love PHP, so I typed up a cover letter and attached my resume. I noticed that the ad also invited applicants to include some sample source code that “best shows off your abilities.” I assumed that this was an option and not a requirement, because frankly, sending a random company my source code just seemed illogical to me. To be safe, I did state in my cover letter that I would be happy to show them some code samples upon meeting with them in person.

At the end of Canto II one of Dante's friends had entertained the souls with a love song.  Until, that is, Cato (the guardian of the mountain) urges them to leave such things, beautiful though they are, and get on with the business at hand.  And so as Dante and Virgil continue their journey, Dante notices that Virgil "looked as though he suffered from remorse" (III.6).  When grace begins to work on reason, reason itself should stir the "dignity of conscience" (II.8), and so cooperate, rather than repel, the workings of grace.
