Calgary housing sales rise 30.3 per cent in April

Posted May 16th, 2012 by buzzhomeblog

Oil prices are rising, people are moving to Alberta, and the housing market is heating up. With population growth topping 47 per cent between 1996 and 2011, Calgary is definitely a market to watch. Despite the dip in oil prices in 2008, which caused a slight stall in the market, it appears Cowtown is back on the up-and-up — in a big way. Nationally, home sales were 11.5 per cent in April 2012 on a year-over-year basis. In the same … Read More

Saturday Morning Confusion about the ‘End of the World!’

Posted May 12th, 2012 by Allan W Janssen

Well kids, here is another example of a left wing nut blowing things out of all proportion just to make a point. Yes, there are some environmental concerns with using ‘tar sands’ oil, but it hardly means the end of the world, folks. A guy with a job as a NASA scientist should know better [...]

Ms. Redford, that’s not a bad idea. Too bad the product is crap

Posted May 11th, 2012 by Dave

Alison Redford would like to create a National Energy Strategy™. Of course, to a huge bunch of people stumbling out of Ceili’s on 8th Ave in Calgary that sounds awfully like National Energy Program. That causes a collective penis shrivel amongst the …

Free this weekend? Looking for a home? Check out these events!

Posted May 11th, 2012 by buzzhomeblog

How can you tell when there’s a long weekend coming up? One of our favourite tell-tale signs is looking at all the development industry event happening the weekend right before. Since very few developers hold events on long weekends (they need time off too), it always seems like there’s twice as many events the weekend before. Proof? Just look at how many events are happening this weekend. From high profile condo opening like 109OZ in Toronto and SoBa Condos in … Read More

We Must Force the Politicians to Go Post-Carbon

Posted May 11th, 2012 by Stephen Elliott-Buckley

We need to leave the tarsands oil in the ground. We need an increasing carbon tax. We need to stop subsidizing carbon energy producers. We need public money invested in post-carbon energy. We need to do it now. I say all this, as does this NASA physicist: The science of the situation is clear — [...]

A Tory Here, A Tory There.

Posted May 9th, 2012 by Robert McBean

The new Cabinet appointed today by Premier Redford is both a continuation of the status quo, but also contains a few hints about what to expect. If you view this as change, you need to get out more.

The 17 member cabinet has 7 associate ministers. Salary and size of cabinet are red herrings. The real issue is whether they can function well.  Previous cabinets were plagued by turf wars, empire

Posted May 8th, 2012 by buzzhomeblog

With so many hot projects popping up in Calgary lately, it’s hard to pick a favourite. But Next by Bucci Group is definitely charming us with its smart floor plans and affordable pricing. The four-storey wood frame development has two fitness rooms, a landscaped courtyard with stellar views, and a dog washing station. But don’t think that just because it’s a wood-frame building that you’ll be listening to noisy neighbours all the time. Next features triple-glazed windows and modern wood frame … Read More
