Posted April 12th, 2012 by Melanie Epp

The Royal Canadian Mint announces its new 25-cent coloured glow-in-the-dark coin. I can’t help but conjure up images of Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. Out with the old and in with the shiny and new – ahem, glow-in-the-dark and new.

Posted March 12th, 2012 by Melanie Epp

Ottawa has announced that it’s moving ahead with its plan to ban a number of our Canadian banks’ more confusing practices. Is Iceland interested in converting to the loonie?

Posted March 4th, 2012 by Brandon Miller

When I was a student in the United States, I showed some Canadian paper money to a couple of friends. They thought it looked like fake money. They didn’t get the colours or the holographic stripe or the depictions of winter sports. It was like Monopoly money to them. It dawned on me that my American friends weren’t really very interested in taking Canadian currency seriously. Then again, when has Canadian money ever be taken seriously on a global stage? Next to the U.S. dollar, ours is continuously overlooked. Not anymore. Or at least not completely, because Canadian money seems…

A Little Scare on a Chilly Day in Ushuaia

Posted February 2nd, 2012 by debndave

We awoke late in the morning to rain. Feeling a little unmotivated, we snuggled up and went back to bed for a couple more hours. Ushuaia is 2 hours ahead of Toronto and while we weren’t feeling jet lagged, we did feel a little groggy from our over 30-hour journey from Canada.

What’s your net worth?

Posted November 28th, 2011 by Melanie Epp

I opened the folder and stared at the number at the bottom of the page. No one had ever told me what I was worth before, and apparently it isn’t a lot. I was visibly disappointed and she looked at me with pity, as if I should have known better. She advised me to come back when I had more to invest. I left without even discussing my options.
