QUEBEC — A new Quebec party that could dramatically shift the province’s political landscape is expected to be announced today.
Former Parti Quebecois cabinet minister Francois Legault has called a news conference in Quebec City to announce the creation of his centre-right party.
The Legault-led movement, called the Coalition for Quebec’s Future, has been causing a stir in the province for months.
Opinion polls suggest Legault is more popular than the governing Liberals and the Opposition Parti Quebecois.
Legault says he wants to postpone the long-standing debate over Quebec independence and tackle more pressing everyday challenges.
He says his politics are slightly right-wing when it comes to economics and slightly left-wing when it comes to social values.
